                         Response to Press Speculation


The Board of Speedy Hire has noted the recent speculation in the Financial Times
that it is currently contemplating the acquisition of A-Plant from Ashtead Group
PLC.

The Board of Speedy Hire wishes to emphasise that no such acquisition is being
considered.  Moreover, as was stated in the interim results released on 28
November 2007, the Company is currently focussed on maintaining the positive
progress it is making in the integration of its acquisition of the Hewden Tools
division from Hewden Stuart plc.  Until that process is complete the Board can
confirm that there will be no further significant acquisitions undertaken.
