Response to Competition & Markets Authority Final Orders for measures to increase competition in the private healthcare market
We note today's publication of the Final Orders from the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) in its inquiry into the private healthcare market.
Spire Healthcare welcomes the recognition that there needs to be transparency of arrangements between hospitals and consultants, and supports the drive to establish an industry-wide Information Organisation to be the repository for quality indicators and measures. We're pleased to support initiatives that help patients and GPs feel confident when choosing their healthcare provider.
We believe our high quality clinical outcomes and high levels of patient satisfaction, as well as our strong CQC inspection results, which show compliance against essential standards of 99.5% compared with a national average of 85%, mean that Spire is well placed to support the development of the Information Organisation.
We are also pleased that NHS Private Patient Units have been included as providers of private healthcare.
We will work with the CMA to implement these Final Orders in the most appropriate manner, while ensuring that we continue to provide patients with high quality of care.
