NOTIFICATION UNDER SECTION 198 TO 202 OF THE COMPANIES ACT 1985

The company was notified on 26 January 2004 that The Prudential Assurance
Company Limited no longer had a notifiable interest in the issued share capital
of Scottish and Southern Energy plc.

Notwithstanding the above, certain companies within the Prudential plc group of
companies continue to have a notifiable interest in 32,349,046 ordinary shares
of 50p each, being 3.77% of the issued share capital of the Company.
