GMTV Stake Increased to 25%

Scottish Media Group PLC 4 January 2000 Scottish Media Group Increases GMTV Stake to 25% Scottish Media Group plc ('SMG') announces today (4 January 2000) that it has increased its shareholding in the national breakfast television station, GMTV, by 5.0% to 25.0%. The shares have been purchased from Guardian Media Group plc for a cash consideration of £5.6m, with a further £0.5m being assumed in loan stock. The additional investment is expected to be earnings enhancing in the current financial year. Two other GMTV shareholders - Carlton Communications plc ('Carlton') and Granada Group PLC ('Granada') - have also each increased their shareholding by 5.0%. Ownership of GMTV is now shared equally between SMG, Carlton, Granada and The Walt Disney Company Limited. Commenting on the decision to strengthen SMG's position in GMTV, Andrew Flanagan, chief executive, said: 'GMTV is both a household name and a successful national broadcaster whose financial prospects have improved significantly since its recent licence renewal.
