NetCom licenses Synchronica's SyncML Gateway
Synchronica plc, an international provider of mobile synchronisation and device
management solutions, has licensed its SyncML Gateway mobile synchronisation
software to Norwegian mobile operator NetCom ASA. The agreement allows NetCom, a
wholly-owned subsidiary of the Telia Sonera Group with over 1.4 million GSM
subscribers, to offer customers a robust back-up and restore facility for
personal data stored on mobile devices.
Arne Igesund, Manager of Data Services at Netcom: "We wanted to be able to offer
our customers an OTA back-up and restore facility for their personal data which
would mean that a change of phone - either due to loss or upgrading - would not
mean losing all important information. With SyncML Gateway, we can provide our
customers with seamless data migration from one device to another, quickly and
easily. We also liked the fact that Synchronica's software is based on the
SyncML open standard, meaning it works on a wide range of devices."
Synchronica CEO Carsten Brinkschulte is confident that SyncML Gateway will
continue to make headway in the mobile operator space. Brinkschulte says:
"Mobile operators are increasingly looking for new revenue streams and an OTA
back-up and restore service; for data residing on individual phones is something
that customers are beginning to request in greater numbers. The research group
Zelos found that 15% of mobile subscribers expressed a strong need for a
mechanism to back up contact data and this percentage will probably grow as
people depend more and more upon their mobile devices as the primary repository
for vital information. As well as employing SyncML Gateway to increase data
traffic, operators can also use the product to help maintain brand loyalty
amongst customers. "
Synchronica's SyncML Gateway offers wireless synchronisation of calendar,
address book and email between industry-standard, SyncML-enabled devices and
Microsoft Exchange or Sun Java Enterprise System. Developed in response to
market demand for industry-standard secure mobile email and PIM synchronisation,
SyncML Gateway is based entirely on the open industry standards SyncML (OMA DS)
and Push IMAP, ensuring compatibility with a wide-range of handsets from leading
manufacturers.
SyncML Gateway is available to large enterprises, mobile operators and managed
Exchange providers as a hosted solution for enterprises preferring not to
install and manage the software themselves. With unique zero-footprint
architecture, it is particularly attractive to operators and can be offered to
individual business users, without the need to install adapters or modify
corporate firewalls. SyncML Gateway was awarded 'Best of CeBIT' 2006 by European
telecoms publication TeleTalk. The award criteria focused on product innovation
and market potential, amongst other things.
