Synchronica signs OEM agreement with Red Bend Software
Integration of products provides complete lifecycle management solution
for firmware over-the-air (FOTA) updates
London, 6 April 2006 - Synchronica plc, an international provider of mobile
synchronisation and device management solutions, has signed a bi-directional OEM
agreement with integrated mobile software management developer Red Bend Software
Inc. The agreement covers the integration of Red Bend's Firmware Management
System (FMS) into Synchronica's device management server, SyncML DM Server 2.1.
The integration of Red Bend's FMS into Synchronica's SyncML DM Server software
provides target customers - mobile operators and device manufacturers - with a
comprehensive, SyncML-based lifecycle management solution for handling firmware
updates OTA (over-the-air). Independent estimates by Strategy Analytics(1) show
that it can cost up to $72.00 to recall a phone for updates. This integrated
solution will allow significant savings to be made by manufacturers and
operators.
Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO of Synchronica plc, commented: "Our partnership with
Red Bend is exciting because it allows us to provide mobile operators and device
manufacturers with a complete lifecycle management solution for FOTA updates.
The fusion of Red Bend's FMS software with Synchronica's SyncML DM Server
addresses the dual challenges of managing and distributing firmware updates
over-the-air with an open, standards-based solution".
He added: "To date it has been a challenge to effectively manage firmware
updates OTA, but the integration of Red Bend's FMS into the SyncML DM Server
makes complex, time consuming firmware administration and updates a thing of the
past. The integrated system provides mobile operators and handset manufacturers
with a comprehensive lifecycle management solution for handling FOTA updates".
