Tate & Lyle PLC was informed on 4 April 2001 that on 2 April 2001 purchases of
Tate & Lyle Ordinary shares were made at 234 pence per share for discretionary
corporate personal equity plans ('PEPs'), none of which involve regular
payments by standing order or direct debit, owned by Mr S Gifford, Mr S
Strathdee and Mr J H W Walker, all of whom are executive directors of Tate &
Lyle PLC.
120 Tate & Lyle Ordinary shares were bought for PEPs owned by Mr S Gifford who
now has an interest in 154,936 Ordinary shares in Tate & Lyle PLC (this total
includes one share under-reported in error since 29 June 2000).
63 Tate & Lyle Ordinary shares were bought for PEPs owned by Mr S Strathdee
who now has an interest in 17,556 Ordinary shares in Tate & Lyle PLC.
77 Tate & Lyle Ordinary shares were bought for PEPs owned by Mr J H W Walker
who now has an interest in 25,099 Ordinary shares in Tate & Lyle PLC.
