Taylor Woodrow appoints new chairman
29th July 2003: Taylor Woodrow, the international housing and development
company, is pleased to announce the appointment today of Norman Askew as
non-executive chairman and a non-executive director of the company.
Mr Askew brings a wealth of experience to the role, which has included 25 years
with the TI Group, where he held a number of divisional managing director
positions, including TI Aerospace. His career has also encompassed; East
Midlands Electricity, where he was chief executive, Virginia Power, USA, where
he was president and chief executive, and with BNFL plc, where he served as
chief executive from 2000 until July 2003.
Mr Askew's other current appointments are as deputy chairman and
chairman-designate of Kidde plc and chairman of the Manchester Science
Enterprise Centre. He is also chairman-designate of the Company Limited by
Guarantee, which will act as the vehicle for the merger of the Universities of
Manchester and Manchester University of Science & Technology (UMIST) which will
be completed in September 2004 when Mr Askew will chair the new University.
Commenting on Mr Askew's appointment, Iain Napier, Taylor Woodrow's chief
executive said: 'We are fortunate to have secured the services of Norman Askew
as Chairman and I am confident that the board and the company will benefit from
his contribution.'
Mr Askew added: 'I am delighted to be joining the Taylor Woodrow team, which I
hold in high regard and look forward to making a positive contribution to the
company's progress in the years ahead.'
Norman Broadhurst, who has been serving as acting chairman since 29th May 2003,
pending the appointment of the chairman, will continue as deputy chairman.
In connection with the appointment of Norman Askew as a Director of Taylor
Woodrow plc on 29th July 2003, Taylor Woodrow plc confirms that there are no
details requiring disclosure under paragraphs 6.F.2 (b) to (g) of the Listing
Rules of the Financial Services Authority.
