T. Clarke plc
T. CLARKE CHAIRMAN OPTIMISTIC FOR FUTURE AT AGM
Speaking at today's Annual General Meeting of T Clarke plc, the electrical
engineering and contracting company, Russell Race, Chairman will make the
following comments:
' Since the announcement of our preliminary results for 2003 on 12 March, the
conditions of our market place have not changed materially. At this stage of the
year, I can report that the Group's trading remains in line with the Board's
expectations.
' In the short-term our core markets remain challenging, although there is
tangible evidence of a recovery. We are increasingly confident that many of the
deferred decisions on major contract orders in London and the Home Counties will
be released later this year or early 2005. Looking further into the future, we
are also encouraged to report that we remain optimistic that our markets will
continue to improve in 2005/2006.
' The slowdown we are currently experiencing will be reflected in our half year
results. However, I am pleased to report that demand is still very encouraging
for our regional operations. We anticipate that turnover for the full year will
be in line with that of 2003 and remain comfortable with the margin
expectations.
' On a sad note, I am sorry to have to report that since the preliminary results
were announced, our former colleague John Nixon has died. He served the Group
for over 40 years, latterly running our Veale Nixon company in Newcastle. He
made an extremely valuable contribution as a main Board director before he
retired on grounds of ill health last summer. On behalf of all of the team we
send condolences to his family.'
