TEG ENVIRONMENTAL PLC
ANIMAL BY-PRODUCT APPROVAL GRANTED TO TEG'S FLAGSHIP COMPOSTING PLANT
IN LANCASHIRE
'This ABP approval offers TEG significant opportunities to grow revenues and to
expand into new and larger markets'
TEG Environmental Plc ('TEG' or 'the Company'), the leading edge green
technology company which converts organic wastes into natural organic
fertiliser, is pleased to announce that it has been granted full Animal
By-Product ('ABP') approval by the State Veterinary Service for its TEG Silo
Cage. This confirms that the plant is validated to process Category III ABP to
the highest UK and EU standard.
The ABP approval, at the Company's original pilot waste composting plant at
Sherdley Farm, near Preston, which has been operational since 2000, represents
the highest classification possible in the organic waste treatment market.
It allows TEG to commercialise the Sherdley Farm facility, install new larger
plants and generate revenues, whilst also creating the opportunity to open up
larger markets for the company. Sherdley Farm already has planning permission
for a new product storage facility that allows an expansion of capacity and it
also has a full waste management license.
Commenting, Mick Fishwick, Chief Executive of TEG Environmental, said:
'Achieving ABP approval from the State Veterinary Service is a major achievement
and demonstrates the outstanding capability of our composting plants. It is very
important that we have been able to gain independent approval for our process.
This development opens up new high volume markets for TEG from the major waste
management companies, supermarkets and multinational food processors, who all
require approved plants to process their waste.'
Under the Animal By-Product Regulations, each individual plant needs to obtain
ABP approval. By achieving the approval at a reference plant, the process to
achieve accreditation at new plants, including those being installed at Sherdley
Farm, is greatly streamlined with a reduced and simplified validation period. So
far, only a handful of other companies have achieved full approval to process
category III ABP in the UK.
Britain introduced ABP Regulations ('ABPR') after the BSE and Foot & Mouth
outbreaks, with EU legislation following in May 2003. ABPR prevents the use of
animal by-products in animal feed and prevents their disposal via landfill. This
includes previously exempt items and maintains the UK's existing ban on swill
feeding. The 1.6 million tonnes of animal by-products the UK generates each year
include products previously applied untreated to land, such as blood and
abattoir waste and, from 31 December 2005, the opportunity will grow further as
it will also include former foodstuffs that contain or have been in contact with
uncooked meat products such as catering waste and supermarket food waste.

Editor's Notes:
TEG provides an in-vessel composting technology, which is one of the few
approved technologies capable of treating animal by-product waste. Plant
economics are driven by the gate fees charged, rather than the value of the end
product (compost). The TEG process is an economic alternative to landfill.
The Silo Cage system, one of the few technologies in Europe capable of treating
this waste, is a natural process producing compost as an end product, used as an
excellent soil conditioner that fertilises, retains moisture, provides structure
and reduces the incidence of plant disease. TEG's Silo-Cages will be housed in a
self-contained building, are not unsightly and are environmentally friendly.
Potential customers include local authorities, waste management companies, food
processors, farmers and landowners. The Company's expanding market is driven by
increasingly stringent EU and UK legislation regulating the treatment and
disposal of organic waste.
