                              Holding in Company


The Company has today been informed that World Life Sciences plc, the life
science investment company, has acquired 600,000 ordinary shares in Fulcrum
Pharma, and now holds a total of 5,960,000 ordinary shares representing
approximately 10.07 % of the issued share capital. The acquisitions were
undertaken as follows:

16 January 2001     market purchase of 150,000 ordinary shares at 16.5 pence
                    each

17 January 2001     market purchase of 150,000 ordinary shares at 18 pence
                    each

19 January 2001     market purchase of 300,000 ordinary shares at 21 pence
                    each
