TotalFinaElf Announces New Hydrocarbon Discovery Offshore Trinidad
and is Awarded an Interest in a New Block
Paris, December 4, 2001 -- TotalFinaElf (30%) and partners BHP Billiton
(operator, 45%) and Talisman (25%) have made a oil discovery in Block 2(c)
offshore Trinidad.
The Canteen-1 well, located approximately 40 kilometers northeast of the island,
was drilled to a depth exceeding 2,150 meters, in waters approximately 50 meters
deep. The well tested at a rate of 3,700 barrels per day of 33.5 degrees API
oil.
This promising discovery confirms the potential of Block 2(c), where the Kairi
discovery was recently made. The Kairi-1 well tested at a rate of 3,000 barrels
of oil per day.
In addition, the government of Trinidad & Tobago recently awarded TotalFinaElf a
10% working interest in Block 3(a), adjacent to Block 2(c). TotalFinaElf's
partners in this block are BHP Billiton (operator), Talisman and BG.
These encouraging results strengthen TotalFinaElf's growth strategy on the
American continent where the Group already has a strong presence.
