Travis Perkins Chairman Reports on First Quarter Trading
and Outlook
Commenting on trading in the current year, Tony Travis, chairman of timber and
building materials supplier Travis Perkins plc, told shareholders at the
Annual General Meeting in London today:
'Total sales in a competitive first quarter were five per cent ahead of those
in the same period last year, with like-for-like sales up two per cent.
Operating profits in the three months were at a similar level to the strong
first quarter a year ago.
'I believe progress will be made as the year proceeds and that recent
investments will help to sustain growth. While the current problems in the
agricultural sector may have a modest effect on sales in the short term, lower
interest rates should over time increase demand from the construction markets.'
