Travis Perkins sales up 22 per cent in first four months
Sales of Travis Perkins, one of the UK's leading builders' merchants, were 22
per cent higher in the first four months of the current year than in the same
period of 2002, with like for like sales up 4.5 per cent, Tim Stevenson,
chairman, will tell shareholders at the company's Annual General Meeting in
London today.
'We are pleased with this strong start to 2003. Our mix of business benefited
from the spell of generally fine weather which also contributed to above average
levels of trading over the Easter period.'
Mr. Stevenson will further report that since the end of last year the group has
added or contracted to add a net 19 branches to the network.
Looking ahead, the chairman says that while the building materials market
remains sensitive to interest rates and the global economy the full year
benefits of the company's recent aggressive acquisition programme will provide a
significant part of its earnings growth in 2003.
