Sarantel announces four GPS design wins in portable consumer products
Sarantel (AIM: SLG), the leading manufacturer of revolutionary filtering
antennas for mobile and wireless devices, today announces four handheld design
wins for its GeoHelix antenna technology.
Selected for its small size and superior handheld performance, the GeoHelix
antenna has been designed into a mobile phone distributed by LG Telecom, a
GPS-enabled camera from Ricoh, a portable navigation device from R.i.CO., and a
personal tracker from Flextrack.
The quality of the GPS antenna will be a critical factor in the success of all
four devices, which are designed for portable use. Unlike conventional GPS
antennas, which lose performance close to the human body, the GeoHelix antenna
is designed especially for hand-portable devices, reducing signal absorption by
the body by up to 90 per cent. Its omni-directional design also ensures a much
clearer view of all GPS satellites within range.
The four products are:
• Jaty's L2000 mobile phone, designed for the Korean telecoms provider LG
Telecom and incorporating navigation, a golf rangefinder, MP3 playback and
T-DMB digital television
• The Ricoh 500SE GPS-ready Digital Camera - a new GPS application for
Sarantel - designed for taking and 'geotagging' photos
• A Portable Navigation Device (PND) designed in partnership with the
Italian manufacturer R.i.CO. and STMicroelectronics.
• A second-generation Flextrack Lommy personal tracker incorporating GSM/
GPRS and voice capabilities. This is a follow-on order - Sarantel having
equipped the previous Lommy design.
David Wither, CEO of Sarantel says:
'We are delighted that Sarantel has been selected by these market-leading
companies to provide such an important component of their products. The
diversity of these devices and the breadth of their applications is a strong
endorsement of our GeoHelix antenna technology and prove its suitability for a
wide range of handheld consumer devices.'
