Appointment of Non-executive Chairman
The Board of The Unite Group PLC ('the Group'), the UK's
leading specialist in student residential accommodation,
is pleased to announce the appointment of Geoffrey Keggen
Maddrell as Non-executive Chairman, with immediate
effect.
Having seen the Group through its successful admission to
the Alternative Investment Market last month, David
Naish, who has been Non-executive Chairman since 1997, is
stepping down as Chairman but remains a Non-executive
Director.
Nick Porter, Managing Director of The Unite Group PLC,

Board. His extensive and valuable experience both in
industry and the City will, I am sure, be of considerable

Mr Maddrell, 63, is Chairman of Westbury plc,
Glenmorangie plc, LDV Limited and ProShare (UK) Limited
(where he was a former Chief Executive). Between 1986 and
1991 he was Chief Executive of Tootal Group plc. Prior
to this, he worked for 14 years for Bowater Corporation,
fulfilling various senior management roles including main
board director for their UK and European activities;
Chief Executive Bowater Europe; and Chief Executive,
Bowater Transport. His early experience was gained at
the Boston Consulting Group and Shell International.
He is also Chairman of Ivory & Sime ISIS Trust plc and of
Macdonald & Muir Distillers.
