In accordance with Part VI of the Companies Act 1985, I have to inform you that
the Company was notified on 18 July 2003 that as at 15 July 2003, Barclays PLC
through its subsidiaries and affiliates, had a notifiable interest in
2,091,810,025 ordinary shares of US$0.10 each in the capital of the Company.
This represents 3.07 per cent of the issued ordinary share capital of the
Company.
