Weir Group PLC

STATEMENT TO SHAREHOLDERS
AT THE 107th ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF THE WEIR GROUP PLC ON THURSDAY 17th MAY
2001 BY
SIR RONALD GARRICK, CHAIRMAN
The following is the text of the statement delivered by the Chairman, Sir
Ronald Garrick, at this year's AGM:-
'Events in 2001 support my statement on prospects contained in our Annual
Report and Accounts.
Order input is ahead of last year and our prediction for a modest annual
growth in orders remains valid.
We expect further progress in 2001 but all of the improvement is again likely
to occur in the second half of the year. Profit (pre tax, goodwill and
exceptionals) for the first quarter of the year is marginally below the level
achieved in the same period last year.
We remain determined to advance our strategy of concentrating on core
activities where we have significant market presence. Acquisitions and
disposals, or the withdrawal from peripheral business areas are all under
active consideration and shareholders should expect to see further progress in
the implementation of the Group's strategy during 2001.'
