APPOINTMENT OF NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Dr Chris Fay has been appointed today a non-executive director of The Weir Group
PLC, the international engineer company.

Well known in the international oil and gas industry, Dr Fay was formerly
chairman and chief executive of Shell UK Ltd and before that managing director
of Shell UK Exploration and Production. He commenced his career in the oil
industry 31 years ago with Shell International Petroleum and has worked in
Africa, the Far East, Scandinavia and the North Sea.

A chartered engineer and graduate of Leeds University, Dr Fay has served on a
number of  prestigious industry committees and is presently chairman of Expro
International  Group, deputy chairman of Stena International BV and a
non-executive director of Anglo American plc and British Airports Authority plc.
He is chairman of the Government's Advisory Committee on Business and the
Environment (ACBE).
