                     Appointment of non-executive director


JD Wetherspoon plc ('the Company') is pleased to announce that Elizabeth
McMeikan has been appointed a non-executive director of the Company, with
immediate effect.  Liz previously worked for Tesco plc for 12 years in a wide
variety of commercial and operational roles, both in the UK and overseas.

Liz McMeikan, 43 years old, is a graduate of Cambridge University.  She is: the
founding director of S.G. Property Investments Limited, a private property
company; a director of St Rhadegund Properties Limited, a dormant company; an
independent member of the Insolvency Service Steering Board of the Dti; and a
Civil Service commissioner.  There are no further details to be disclosed in
respect of Liz McMeikan pursuant to paragraphs 16.4(a) and 16.4(b) of the
Listing Rules.
