Third Quarter Sales and Pub Openings
Total sales in the third quarter of our financial year, covering the 13 weeks to
28 April 2002, rose by £30.1 million to £152.9 million, an increase of 24.5%
compared to the previous year. The year to date sales for the 39 weeks to 28
April 2002 were £438.1 million, 25% ahead of the previous year. Like-for-like
sales in the quarter increased by 5.7% bringing the year to date position to
5.4%.
In line with expectations, 21 pubs have opened so far in the second half of the
financial year, bringing the total number this year to 56 and the overall number
of pubs to 577. As indicated at the time of our interim results, the Company
expects to open approximately 80 pubs in the current financial year.
