J D WETHERSPOON PLC
End of Year Trading Update
JD Wetherspoon plc today announces a end of year trading update.
Following the third quarter performance announced on 8 May 2002, May
like-for-like sales increased by 3.8% and June by 3.5%. Like-for-likes for the
48 weeks to the 30 June increased by 5.1%. The first two weeks of July increased
by 4.0% and 5.0% respectively.
Costs for the year to date are slightly higher than anticipated so that profits
may be towards the lower end of analysts estimates.
We anticipate opening between 85 and 87 new pubs in the financial year, slightly
more than previous estimates.
The preliminary results for the year ending 28 July are expected to be released
on 6 September 2002.
