             CHRISTOPHER CLARKE STANDS DOWN
                            
            James Robinson appointed Manager
                            

From  30  June 2000 Christopher Clarke will give  up  his
executive  role as Managing Director of Witan  Investment
Trust  plc (£2bn International General Investment Trust),
a  post  which he has held since January 1993.   He  will
remain  on the board.  Forty six year old James Robinson,
Director   of   International   Equities   at   Henderson
Investors, will become the new Manager of Witan from that
date.

Robinson  began  his  career at Peat,  Marwick,  Mitchell
where  he  qualified as a Chartered Accountant.   He  has
worked  for  Cazenove & Co. and Mercury Asset Management,
covering  both the South East Asian and Far East markets,
joining  Henderson Investors in 1990 as Head of  the  Far
East  team.   Robinson was appointed Head of Overseas  in
1993  and served as a Director of Henderson PLC from 1996
to  1998.   In  his capacity as Director of International
Equities, Robinson is responsible for Henderson's  global
equity  product  and is a member of the Company's  Global
Investment Management Executive.

Commenting  on the development, Christopher Clarke  said,
'I  joined  Henderson  in 1974 and since  then  Henderson
Investors  and Witan in particular have been an  integral
part  of  my  life.  During this period,  the  Trust  has
delivered some excellent returns averaging around 16%  pa
over  the  last ten years.  Although I am remaining  with
Henderson I have a number of external interests  and  now
would like to devote a little more time to them.  I  will
continue  to play a role in the future of Witan and  have
every  confidence in the strength of the Company  and  of
the  Board.   It has always been a collective effort  and
the  investment management team remains unchanged.  I  am
sure  that  James Robinson is ideally placed to  maintain
the  type of consistent fund performance which has become
