WOOD GROUP ENGINEERING (NORTH SEA) WINS MAJOR BP CONTRACT
Wood Group Engineering (North Sea) Ltd, part of John Wood Group PLC ('Wood
Group'), has been reappointed as one of BP's two main engineering, modifications
and maintenance (EMM) providers to its assets in the North Sea arena. The Wood
Group contract is worth up to £135million over three years and involves the
provision of EMM services to half of BP's UK North Sea assets located East and
West of Shetland, Central North Sea and the Sullom Voe Terminal. This follows
BP's announcement of intent in June 2004 which now has partner approval.
Initially awarded for three years, the contract has three two-year extension
options. It will secure employment for around 500 Wood Group employees.
Les Thomas, Group Director responsible for Production Facilities said, 'Wood
Group is delighted to have won this significant contract in the North Sea. BP's
decision to reappoint the Group is a testament to our safety record, our
technical ability and our cost management skills. We have been a contractor to
BP for many years, and look forward to maintaining and strengthening our
alignment with BP's business objectives.'
The new award follows Wood Group Engineering (North Sea)'s successful
performance on a previous BP contract to provide these services for
Schiehallion, Magnus, Andrew, ETAP, Everest and Lomond. The contract has been
extended to include Sullom Voe and, in due course, the Bruce platform.
Commenting on the news Business Unit Leader Dave Blackwood said, 'These awards
are worth between $100-$160m a year and clearly reflect BP's ongoing commitment
to its activities here in the North Sea.'
