Acquisition of Brindfors Design A.B. strengthens
WPP's branding and identity presence in Scandinavia
WPP's wholly-owned subsidiary, Enterprise IG, the global brand
and identity consultancy, has substantially strengthened its
European base by acquiring Brindfors Design A.B., a leading
Scandinavian design firm.
Brindfors, with offices in Stockholm and Oslo, is
Scandinavia's largest design firm with a strong creative
reputation. The company had revenues in 1998 of SEK 51
million (E6.1 million) and net assets of SEK 6.9 million
(E0.8 million) at 31 December 1998. Major clients include
SEB, Gant, Telia and Kraft.
Enterprise IG is the world's largest brand and identity
consultancy with offices in London, Hamburg, New York, San
Francisco, Taipei, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Enterprise IG
employs over 500 people worldwide and has a turnover of over
£70million (E108.5million). Current clients include Corus,
Thomas Cook, IAXIS, Instinet, Bank of America, Arthur
Andersen, Hilton, BT, Coca-Cola and Disney.
The new partnership gives Enterprise IG a strong base in
Sweden and Norway from which it can better service the
needs of the important Scandinavian market.
Commenting on the initiative, founder Hans Brindfors and
managing director Peter Gyvrki, said: 'Joining Enterprise
IG brings us an enormous number of opportunities and will
enable us to compete more effectively locally to work for
international clients based in Scandinavia.'
Brindfors will be known, with immediate effect, as
Brindfors Enterprise IG.
Dave Allen, chief executive of Enterprise IG in Europe and
Asia, says, 'The addition of Brindfors brings into the
group one of the leading creative gurus in Europe. Their
strategic task will be to build Enterprise IG into the
dominant consultancy in Scandinavia'.
In developing Enterprise IG worldwide, WPP believes that
branding and identity is now the third global marketing
service, after advertising and market research. This has
been driven by clients increasing demand for a consistent
approach to nurturing their brands, as it becomes harder to
differentiate themselves on availability, product or
service innovation and price.
This initiative continues WPPs strategy of developing its
business in the faster growing segments of the
communications services industry.
