Xeros Technology Group plc
Joint development programme with LANXESS to develop leather bead processing technology
Xeros Technology Group plc (AIM: XSG, "Xeros" or "the Group") , the innovative developer of a patented polymer bead cleaning system with multiple identified commercial applications, announces a joint development programme between Xeros Ltd. and LANXESS Deutschland GmbH ("LANXESS") to advance the application of Xeros' polymer bead cleaning technology in the leather processing industry.
LANXESS, an €8 billion revenue DAX listed global specialty chemicals business based in Germany, is one of the world's largest suppliers of chemicals into the leather industry, supplying tanneries around the globe.
Xeros has developed a process, similar to its patented process already deployed in its established Commercial Laundry business, whereby the majority of water and chemistry used in leather processing is replaced by Xeros' high performance polymer beads.
The high consumption of water, chemicals and energy, with the issue of sustainability, are the biggest challenges faced by the leather industry. In laboratory trials with the University of Northampton, Xeros has shown its patented process produces a superior finished leather product whilst significantly reducing the environmental impact from water usage and effluent.
Xeros will work with LANXESS' Performance Chemicals, Leather business unit on a multi-phase joint development programme that aims to enable the processing of high quality leather on a commercial and scalable basis using Xeros' high performance polymer beads. The partnership intends to have a prototype in tannery trials in the second half of 2015.
