Commenting on the result, John Young, Chairman of Young's said:
'This is now the third time that Guinness Peat has put forward resolutions to
enfranchise the non-voting shares and on each occasion they have been
resoundingly defeated. With only around one 'A' shareholder in 9 supporting
them, it is clear that Mr Nixon does not speak for the majority of non-family
shareholders as he claims. Excluding Guinness Peat's own shareholding, holders
of only 2% of the 'A' shares supported the proposal for Blake Nixon's election
to the Board.
'I believe the message from all shareholders to Guinness Peat is clear. The
continual refusal by Mr Nixon to accept the will of the majority is winning him
no friends.'
