                     Appointment of Non-executive Director

Northgate plc, the UK's leading light commercial vehicle hire company, is
pleased to announce that Mr Tom Brown has agreed to join the Board of the
Company as a Non-executive Director with immediate effect.

Mr Brown (56) is currently Chairman of Dyson Group plc, the materials technology
company, Chairman of Chamberlin & Hill plc, the engineering group, and a
director of a number of private companies.

He was previously Group Chief Executive of United Industries plc, and before
that Group Managing Director of Fenner plc. His early career was spent with GKN
plc, where he became Managing Director of operating companies in the UK and
overseas. He also worked for McKinsey & Company Inc, the American consulting
firm.

Mr Brown was executive chairman of Hydra Tools International Limited within the
12 months preceding the receivership of that company on 13 October 2000. There
are no other matters which require to be disclosed pursuant to Listing Rule
16.4.
