FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 2 DECEMBER 2003
Ten Alps and Orange: Brightening Up London
Media group Ten Alps Communications plc ('Ten Alps') announces that throughout
December its events division will be producing 'Brightening Up London', which
will see nine major buildings lit up with multiple projections of images created
by celebrities such as artist Damien Hirst.
The event is fully funded by mobile phone company Orange, and the budget is of a
material level to Ten Alps' events company.
'Brightening Up London' has received the backing of London Mayor Ken
Livingstone. It will see Hirst, Nigella Lawson, photographer David Bailey and
designer Stella McCartney creating their own images for projection onto some of
London's most famous landmarks including Wellington Arch, National Gallery,
National Theatre, Tate Britain and Imperial War Museum.
England rugby captain Martin Johnson, supermodel Naomi Campbell, actor Shane
Ritchie are among celebrities scheduled to choose images which will be seen.
Bob Geldof said: 'Lights & illuminations have always been associated with
Christmas and this is a great opportunity to create a world class festive
celebration which has the potential both to become an annual tradition in
London, brightening up the dull dark December days, and to be replicated in
other major capitals.' Geldof is a co-founder and non-executive director of
Ten Alps.
Orange UK Vice-President of Brand Marketing Jeremy Dale said: 'London is a truly
vibrant city and through the 'Brightening Up London' campaign Orange will ensure
that this year's festivities will be the best ever.'
