EXPERIENCED RETAILER JOINS
THE BOARD AT OLIVER GROUP

Further to its recent announcement of 13th October 1999, The Oliver Group Plc,
the UK 'family footwear' retailer, announces the appointment of David
Stevenson as non-executive Director.

David Stevenson is an experienced retailer who has extensive knowledge of many
sectors including clothing and footwear.  He founded and developed the
business of The Edinburgh Woollen Mill Ltd, which was subsequently acquired by
Grampian Holdings in 1996.

Mr Stevenson's other Directorships include; Deputy Chairman, Grampian Holdings
PLC, non-executive Director, Dobbies Garden Centres PLC, Schuh Limited and
Chairman of the Scottish Sports Aid Foundation.
