Letter to Company Announcement Office

We wish to advise you that Occidental's Board of Directors has fixed the time
and date for the 2001 Annual Meeting of Stockholders at 10:30 a.m., Friday,
April 20,2001.  The meeting will be held in the Fairmont Miramar Hotel, 101
Wilshire Boulevard, Santa Monica, California.  The close of business on March 2,
2001, has been fixed as the record date for the determination of stockholders
entitled to notice of and to vote at this meeting.
