Chapel Down wins three gold medals at Decanter World Wine Awards

By BFN News | 01:57 PM | Monday 20 May, 2013

English winemaker Chapel Down has won three gold medals and a prestigious 'best in class' trophy at today's (20 May) Decanter World Wine Awards. Chapel Down was recognized for one each of its sparkling whites, sparkling ros©s and still whites, beating many other wines from around the world with, historically, much bigger reputations. Chapel Down Blanc de Blancs 2007 was awarded both a gold medal and the trophy for best UK sparkling wine (over £15). The wine was made with fruit sourced from Sussex and Kent with vines grown on greensand, Wealden clay and chalk soils. It was exclusively launched through Harvey Nichols Wineshops last May, alongside Chapel Down's Chardonnay Reserve 2010 which also received a gold medal today. This is the first occasion that Chapel Down has received a top award for a still white from the Decanter Awards. Chapel Down's third gold was awarded to its Rose Brut adding to the many accolades this wine has already won (including a gold medal at the International Wine Challenge 2011). The Decanter World Wine Awards is the world's leading wine competition. Story provided by
