US jobless claims fall by 18,000

US initial unemployment claims fell to 324,000 in the week ending 27 April - a decrease of 18,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 342,000. The US Department of Labor said the four-week moving average was 342,250, a decrease of 16,000 from the previous week's revised average of 358,250. The advance seasonally-adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.3% for the week ending 20 April, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate. The advance number for seasonally-adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending 20 April was 3,019,000, an increase of 12,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 3,007,000.
