              BESTFOODS DECLARES REGULAR QUARTERLY DIVIDEND

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, NJ, March 21, 2000 - The Board of Directors of Bestfoods today
declared a regular quarterly dividend of 26.5 cents per share, payable
on April 25, 2000, to stockholders of record at the close of business March 31, 
2000.
