Dividend Declaration

19 September 2000

At its meeting held today, the Board of Directors of Bestfoods declared a
regular quarterly dividend of 26.5 cents per share on the Common Stock of the
Company payable October 25, 2000 to stockholders of record at the close of
business on September 29, 2000.  The ex-dividend date is Wednesday, September
27, 2000.
