France Telecom R&D Purchases License for Emblaze's subsidiary's (Orca
Interactive) RiGHTv(tm) to Continue Development of Interactive Services

September 20, 2001 Rennes- France Telecom R&D announced today that they have
chosen Orca Interactive (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Emblaze(tm) Systems-
LSE:BLZ) and Orca's RiGHTv(tm) to develop interactive applications for
entertainment video over DSL.

RiGHTv(tm) is the perfect development platform for creating services in the
interactive TV market. RiGHTv(tm) Core combines a development environment for
interactive services; a Run-time 'engine' for presenting dynamic application
data; and a common platform that includes such sub-systems as subscriber
management, content management and more. Together with XVOD(tm) (eXtended VOD
Application) and XBIP(tm) (eXtended Broadcast over IP Application), RiGHTv(tm)
boasts an 'Applications Over Core'(tm) architecture, to deliver a complete end-
to-end solution for provisioning content and network from the head-end up to
the application on the subscriber's set-top box. RiGHTv(tm) enables the service
provider to fine-tune their services in all aspects of their system and is
specifically designed to evolve with a dynamic network and a fine-grained,
customized user interface, that best suits the user's preferences and device

Orca Interactive, a leader in iTV applications that generate multiple-revenue
streams for operators, has participated in lab tests for an extended evaluation
period of six months in which RiGHTv(tm) has been tested along with several
other solutions. The aim of the evaluation testing, conducted at the R&D
facility in Rennes, was to select a single solution from among many, to develop
prototype services.

Almost all of the world's leading telecommunications corporations are looking
to offer high-quality, innovative services over their DSL network. Therefore,
key elements of their evaluation tend to center on the level of features that
are available to the subscriber and the quality of the viewer's experience.
However, for the R&D of each major telco, the manageability of these services
and the business sense in bringing these services to market also play an
important role in the selection of a technology platform. It has been precisely
these characteristics that have lead France Telecom R&D to turn to Orca
Interactive. Among the deciding factors in the selection process, that set
apart Orca Interactive from a number of different leading vendors in the VOD
market, was the ability that RiGHTv(tm) gives operators to successfully brand
their service across multiple devices (various set-top-boxes, PCs, PDAs) and
the complete control operators have over the UI of the service.

The result is that France Telecom R&D will purchase a license to develop, over
the coming months, prototype services using RiGHTv(tm) 2.1, including the XVOD
(tm) and XBIP(tm) applications, in anticipation of the entry of France Telecom
into the Interactive TV marketplace.

'We are proud to be a part of this effort to develop video services with a
justifiable business model', said Sefy Ariely, EMEA Director of Business
Development at Orca Interactive. 'We expect that FT R&D will be a demanding
customer and we will be happy to work closely with them to make this project a
