MAZARAN ACQUIRES BRISTOL HEALTH & FITNESS CENTRE FOR £1.15m
Mazaran Leisure plc, the AIM quoted health and fitness group in which Sandy
Anderson owns more than a 48% stake, today announces a further step in its
planned expansion programme by acquiring a substantial health club in Bristol
for £1.15m cash.
Located in Littlestoke, a few miles from Bristol city centre, the Harriers
Sports & Leisure Centre currently extends to around 14,000 sq ft and occupies
a site of almost 1.5 acres on a long lease with approximately 89 years
unexpired.
The centre currently comprises a fully equipped modern gym, with approximately
70 stations, a large sports hall, dance studio and health suite together with
restaurant facilities and a creche.
Importantly there is planning consent to expand the existing facility by a
further 9,000 sq ft to approximately 23,000 sq ft. This would enable the
current membership of 1,100 to be extended to between 2,000 and 2,500 through
additional car parking and a larger gym or the construction of a swimming
pool.
In the 12 months to the end of October 1998 the centre produced operating
profits of £141,277 on turnover of £348,555 and in the six months to 30th
April 1999 operating profits of £96,035 were produced on turnover of £264,242.
As a result of this acquisition Mazaran now owns or manages five health and
fitness centres.
