                 E*TRADE FINANCIAL Corporation Joins the NASDAQ
                              Financial-100 Index


New York, New York - E*TRADE FINANCIAL (NASDAQ: ETFC) has become a component of
the NASDAQ Financial-100 Index(R) (NASDAQ: IXFIN), effective prior to market
open on January 30, 2007. E*TRADE FINANCIAL replaced Charter Financial
Corporation (NASDAQ: CHFN).

'We are tremendously excited that an innovative leader in the financial services
industry such as E*TRADE FINANCIAL has been included in the NASDAQ Financial-100
Index,' said NASDAQ executive vice president Bruce Aust.

With a market capitalization of approximately $10.1 billion, E*TRADE FINANCIAL
provides financial services including trading, investing, banking and lending
for retail and institutional customers.

E*TRADE FINANCIAL listed its common stock on the NASDAQ(R) Global Select Market
on December 27, 2006. The Company also listed certain mandatory convertible
notes known as Equity Units on NASDAQ under the symbol ETFCP.
