Launch of Photon Kathaas Music   

Photon Kathaas Productions Ltd. (AIM: PKP, "PKP"), the South Indian film company, announces the launch if its own music label - Photon Kathaas Music - to capitalize on the popularity of soundtracks and ring tones amongst Indian film audiences. 

PKP has acquired the music rights of a Tamil film titled Kandhein and is launching the soundtrack at an event in Chennai today. The audio rights to Kandhein were acquired by PKP for a nominal value of approx. USD 5,000.

In addition, PKP has signed a five-year agreement with Hungama - the leading mobile content delivery platform - to deliver the music rights across new media and mobile channels. This arrangement entitles PKP to participate in a revenue sharing arrangement with Hungama.

The launch of Photon Kathaas Music is part of the PKP's strategy to extend its ownership of intellectual property and diversify across other high-value revenue generators associated with film production. 

Soundtracks and their associated specially-made videos are an important ingredient in the marketing and commercial success of Indian films. Apart from soundtrack sales on CDs, new audio products such as downloads, caller tunes and ring tones can generate substantial revenues for producers such as PKP.

PKP's chief creative officer, the film director Gautham Vasudev Menon, is noted for his use of high-quality music across his films. PKP's chief creative mentor, A.R. Rahman, is the double-Oscar winning composer of the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack. 

Through Photon Kathaas Music, PKP aims to widen the scope of its pioneering studio model devoted to the commercial and critical success of South Indian language films and their associated revenue lines.
