Malcolm Bailey to join Board of Westpac New Zealand

Westpac New Zealand has appointed professional company director Malcolm Bailey to its board effective 1 September 2012.

Malcolm has a strong economic background and has also been involved in farming, land ownership and governance of the industry.  He is a former national president of Federated Farmers of NZ and has been a director of Fonterra since 2004.  Malcolm is also Chairman of the Dairy Companies Association of NZ, a member of the NZ International Business Forum and a board member of the NZ US Business Council.  Prior to farming, he was an economist with the Reserve Bank and is a former Reserve Bank External Monetary Policy Adviser.

"Malcolm brings a wealth of experience and a number of skills that will be valuable to the board," Westpac New Zealand Chairman Peter Wilson said. "He is a strong strategic thinker, has a proven ability to analyse the macro economic environment and trends supported by a background in finance and economics."

Malcolm replaces Ralph Waters who joined the board in September 2006.  As one of New Zealand's most accomplished businessmen and leaders, Ralph Waters has made a valuable contribution to the Westpac New Zealand board.  "We have been fortunate to have had the benefit of Ralph's experience from a range of businesses on both sides of the Tasman".

Ralph Waters' resignation will be effective 1 September 2012.
